Idris Usman (Shinkafan Nupe) and the governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Niger State, has outlined the motivations behind his involvement in politics, describing public service as a platform for protecting lives, promoting justice, and creating opportunities for citizens.
In a statement titled "Why I Am in Politics," released in July 2026, Usman said his decision to enter politics was influenced by his experiences witnessing communities grapple with insecurity, limited opportunities, and developmental challenges.
According to the NDC flag bearer, politics remains one of the most powerful tools for shaping society and improving the welfare of citizens when guided by service, integrity, and a commitment to the common good.
Usman stated that leadership should go beyond occupying public office and focus on creating an environment where individuals can live with dignity, access opportunities, and contribute meaningfully to society.
He identified the protection of lives and property as the foremost responsibility of government, noting that peace, security, and justice are critical foundations for economic growth, investment, and sustainable development.
