The Federal Government has approved and released funds for the payment of five months' accumulated Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) to eligible academic staff in federal universities across the country.
The development is part of the Federal Government's commitment to implementing the 2025 agreement reached with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
In a directive issued to vice-chancellors of federal universities, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, instructed institutions to commence immediate payment of all outstanding CATA arrears to eligible lecturers and academic staff.
The minister also directed universities that previously used internally generated revenue or other institutional funds to settle the allowance from January 2026 to refund such expenditures upon receiving the federal allocation.
