The Oyo State Police Command has arrested six suspects in connection with the recent abduction of students and staff from a school in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
According to security authorities, the suspects were tracked through telephone communications with the kidnappers and are believed to have acted as informants and couriers for the criminal group.
Police disclosed that two commercial motorcyclists were arrested in Ibadan while allegedly attempting to collect ransom payments, while three other suspects were apprehended during follow-up operations in Oyo and Kwara states. A university student was also arrested after a victim's mobile phone was reportedly traced to him.
Security agencies, however, confirmed that the principal bandits responsible for the abduction remain at large and are still being pursued.
Investigations revealed that some of the suspects allegedly provided intelligence and navigation support to the kidnappers operating around the Old Oyo National Park, helping them evade security operatives.
Authorities also disclosed that bank accounts linked to the suspects have been frozen as part of ongoing efforts to track ransom payments and dismantle the criminal network.
The Oyo State Police Command assured residents that operations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining members of the gang and bring all those involved to justice.
