A 22-year-old teacher, Maryam Usman, has died following an alleged assault by the father of one of her pupils in Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State.
According to the Kogi State Police Command, the incident occurred after the teacher reportedly disciplined a pupil for misconduct, during which the child allegedly sustained an arm injury.
The pupil's father, identified as Ishaq Abdullahi, allegedly stormed the school with two women on June 18 and assaulted the teacher, leaving her with serious injuries.
Maryam was initially treated at a hospital in Ugbamaka before being referred to Iko-Ojo Hospital in Okpo, where she later died on June 25.
Police spokesperson, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, confirmed the incident, stating that the suspects fled before officers arrived at the scene.
She said efforts are ongoing to arrest the suspects, while the victim's body will be taken to General Hospital, Ankpa, for an autopsy. The case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation after the suspects are apprehended.
Meanwhile, the deceased's family has called on the authorities to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
