The Ondo State Government has withheld the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results and testimonials of 17 graduating students over acts of misconduct linked to post-examination celebrations in Akure.
The affected students, drawn from Oyemekun Grammar School, Aquinas Secondary School, and CAC Grammar School, were identified in a viral video showing students tearing school uniforms and engaging in disorderly conduct after completing their final examination papers.
The State Commissioner for Education, Mr. Igbekele Ajibefun, disclosed the decision following a disciplinary meeting involving education officials and school administrators.
According to the Commissioner, the names of the affected students will be recorded in their schools' disciplinary register, while students who participated in the incident but are not in the graduating class have been directed to face expulsion.
Ajibefun stressed that while students have the right to celebrate academic milestones, the government will not tolerate actions capable of undermining discipline and the integrity of the state's educational system.
He also urged parents to guide their children against engaging in activities that could negatively affect their future prospects.
The Ministry stated that the sanctions are intended to serve as a deterrent and reinforce discipline across schools in the state.
