The Blue Resolution Initiative (TBRi) has called on the Niger State Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBUL) chapter, to urgently resolve the issues that led to the declaration of an indefinite strike by the university’s academic staff.
In a press statement dated August 24, 2026, TBRi described the industrial action as avoidable and expressed concern about its potential impact on the academic programmes and career timelines of students at the institution.
The organisation attributed the dispute to what it described as the state government’s prolonged failure to adequately address agreements concerning staff welfare, working conditions and funding for the university.
TBRi urged the Niger State Government to engage with the university workers and provide concrete and implementable measures to resolve the impasse, stressing that students should not bear the consequences of the dispute.
According to the group, a sustainable resolution should include improved attention to the university’s funding, staff welfare and infrastructure, alongside commitments capable of restoring academic activities at the institution.
TBRi General Secretary, Aliyu Baba Saidu, said the organisation stands with affected students and urged the government to act promptly to prevent further disruption to their education.
The group further called for a negotiated settlement between the relevant parties, saying that continued disruption of academic activities could have wider implications for tertiary education in the state.
The statement comes following the indefinite strike declared by the ASUU chapter at IBBUL. The union’s specific demands and the Niger State Government’s response to the latest statement were not contained in the TBRi press release.
TBRi maintained that resolving the dispute would require concrete commitments from the government and meaningful engagement with university workers to restore stability and academic activities at IBBUL.
