A former Education Secretary of the Lapai Local Government Education Authority, Mallam Umar Galadima, has called for stronger monitoring and evaluation of public schools across the area, saying effective oversight is critical to restoring standards in the education system.
Galadima made the call during an interview with Lapai TV, reflecting on his more than one-year tenure as Education Secretary of the Lapai Local Government Education Authority.

He said monitoring and evaluation were among the major tools he used during his tenure to identify gaps and reconnect what he described as “missing lines” in the local education system.
According to him, consistent supervision of schools provides education authorities with the opportunity to identify challenges, assess teachers’ performance and ensure that responsibilities are being effectively carried out.
Galadima appealed to the newly appointed Education Secretary to make regular monitoring of schools a priority, stressing the need to ensure that teachers are held accountable for their duties.
He said improved accountability, coupled with consistent monitoring, could contribute significantly to restoring the standard of public education in the area.
The former Education Secretary also acknowledged the contributions of community stakeholders to the development of education in Lapai. He specifically appreciated the Emir of Lapai, Alhaji Umar Bago Tafida, Hon. Mu’azu Hamidu Jantabo, Hon. Abdullahi Umar Evuti, Chairman of Lapai Local Government, and the Lapai Emirate Development Foundation, among others.
Galadima noted that collaboration between education authorities and community stakeholders remains important in addressing challenges within the public school system.
He therefore urged the new education leadership to sustain engagement with relevant stakeholders while strengthening monitoring mechanisms across schools in the area.
