The Niger State Government has officially handed over 500 hectares of land to Abuja Steel Mills Ltd for the establishment of a solar farm and industrial park in Diko, Gurara Local Government Area.
Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, at the groundbreaking ceremony, described the project as a major step toward transforming the state’s industrial landscape and expanding economic opportunities for residents.
He said the initiative reflects his administration’s commitment to positioning Niger State as a leading destination for sustainable investment and industrial growth, adding that the “New Niger” vision is gradually becoming a reality.
The Governor also announced plans to gazette 200,000 hectares of land along the Diko–Tafa corridor up to the border with Kaduna State for future industrial development, aimed at leveraging the AKK gas pipeline and the state’s vast land resources.
Minister of Power, Joseph Olasunkanmi, commended the initiative, describing it as a significant step in attracting strategic investment and strengthening Nigeria’s energy and industrial sectors.
The Minister of Steel Development, Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, also praised the project and the state’s agricultural and industrial development strides.
Minister of State for Industry, John Owan Enoh, called for stronger intergovernmental collaboration to accelerate national development goals.
Chairman of Africa Industry Group, Raj Gupta, assured that the company remains committed to responsible investment, job creation, and corporate social responsibility within host communities.
